10 Most Violent Video Games Ever

Question

Guest =TS=MAGNET

Here's a list of 10 most violent video games ever that sparked controversy with their violent content and what it was that made them so violent.

1. Death Race (1976)

In the chunky, black-and-white pixilated graphics of the time, players ran down "gremlins" in their vehicles. The targets squealed and cried, and were then replaced by tombstones on the screen. It didn't help when word leaked that the working title had been "Pedestrian."

2. Mortal Kombat (1992)

Brandishing severed heads, ripping out hearts and spines and the like helped put "Mortal Kombat" at the head of a pack of games that prompted hearings in Congress and, eventually, led to the creation of the Entertainment Software Rating Board.

3. Doom (1993) Which is my favorite EVER ... There was blood and gore, shotguns and chainsaws. And when it emerged that the shooters in the 1999 Columbine High School tragedy were avid "Doom" players, it was pretty much assured that the game would move to the forefront of the controversy of the time.

4. Grand Theft Auto (1997)

The game was controversial from its very earliest incarnation because it let players do just about anything as they portrayed criminals. But it really ramped up with 2001's "Grand Theft Auto III," when improved graphics made the chaos even more realistic. Players could kill police officers, hire (and subsequently kill) prostitutes and perform any number of other unsavory acts. In 2003, the family of two shooting victims filed the first of what would become several lawsuits against the series. That case was quickly dismissed.

5. Silent Hill (1999)

When Konami released it in 1999, no one had seen anything quite like "Silent Hill." A creepy survival shooter, it took horror-movie style visuals to a new level, complete with cut scenes that included disemboweled and crucified bodies.

6. Postal 2 (2003)

Abusing and killing cats. Killing people who cut ahead of you in line at the bank. Urinating on the corpses of victims. All are allowed, and much more.

7. MadWorld (2009)

When we say the violence in "MadWorld" is cartoonish, we mean it literally. Think "Sin City." The concept is straight out of a cartoon as well; you're on a game show in which you earn points for slaughtering people.

8. Bioshock (2007)

"Bioshock" was a massive hit with gaming critics, and for good reason. It is visually sumptuous, thought-provoking and puts the player in a mind-bending, futuristic world that has gone very, very wrong.

9. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009)

The level of violence in the massively popular "Call of Duty" title is probably what any experienced gamer would expect from a combat title. But it was the nature of that violence that turned heads. Set in the "near future," the shooter puts the player in firefights in Afghanistan and, at least once, lets them join forces with terrorists. One scene puts the player in the position of deciding whether to join in as an ally guns down innocent civilians in an airport.

and last but not least ....

10. Bulletstorm (2011)

Before it was even released, the website for a certain cable news channel (hint: not this one) ran a story under the headline "Is 'Bulletstorm' the worst video game in the world?" "The damage could be significant," if a child plays the game, one psychiatrist said in the article (which does not say whether the psychiatrist had seen the game).

May I just put my 2 cents? The list is without doubts great. But, as for violence, I can recall a couple more- Soldier Of Fortune 1/2, Turok 2, Fallout, Crusader No Remorse, Rune, W40K, DOW, FEAR, Chronicles Of Riddick, Gears Of War ( blood saw massacre, and was predcestor of UT3, Bulletstorm, and made in spirit of 40K), UT3, and Space Marine, Arx Fatalis, Dark Messiah. There could be a few more, but this list is not ever going to end :D Oh, and Killing Floor and Syndicate Wars, and Dead Space 1/2 :D

Spme ppl call CS violent, but.. compared to these ones, it is just Rubik cube

Excuse me, this is just my opinion. I might be wrong.

To Grim_Reaper -- If you can, post a screen shot of what you would consider violent.

As far as that cat used as a silencer? That's horrible and it's no way to treat a cat either!

I won't be buying that game for sure.

Screenshot- I'm afraid not. I will seek and add here. But SOF2 for example had most detailed dismemberment ever. But violence for me if to turn ppl and creatures in absolute meat shower and flying guts across the screen, foul language, social violence. Hundreds and thousnds of dismembered bleeding corpses, gore, meat, guts and blood.

If this is not violent.... :D

Awwwwww man! :5: I wonder if this is the same thing as when I'm using the melee on Left4Dead zombies? It only will remind me to pick that weapon more often. 32%20%2820%29.png

I think for blood and gore, UT3 has to be right up there... you hit someone with a rocket or frag grenade and it's like blood, guts, and various sized body parts scattered everywhere lol Especially when you nail them up close LOL

DOOM 3 was good in that regard too .... play it with the surround on and the lights off OMG..

One all time favorite of mine that wasn't mentioned was Quake Arena III, maybe because the bodies didn't scatter into pieces?

SOF 1 was a MUCH better game than SOF 2... voice acting in SOF 2 was terrible, and the game flow wasn't right. I always got stuck in the same place in SOF 2, even after I killed all of the enemies and time to wander around unmollested, I could NOT find any way out of the map, even though I knew where it had to be...frustrating :P

Then of course, for console gamers, there's Gears of War and cutting your enemies in half with your chain saw bayonet, now THAT was cool 32%20(1).png

This must be a newer version of the one I played a few years ago, I can tell by the language :P

The one I played was just like being in the movie.. scared the hell out of me when I played with the lights off lol I'll have to see if I still have it, and, if it will run under Win 7 :)
