    Ghost Recon Online Impressions

I got GRFS back in July/August. My kid, Maggot Jr., stomped through the single player game immediately. I played some multi-player and it was not to my liking. Recently I began playing Ghost Recon Online. This is free to download and you don't need to have GRFS. The game is very much like GRFS except the maps are bigger but not that many of them. Gaining weapons and levels is via a dual points process. You get crappy weapons at the beginning of whatever class you choose to play. New weapons and accessories are unlocked when you reach new levels (gaining experience points). If you are impatient then you can buy coin equivalents (PayPal) and go purchase additional gear etc. I guess this is how they plan to make money - however I haven't paid for anything. I found the learning curve pretty steep and was getting my butt trounced as a noob Recon. Over time you learn the maps and how to play but it was rather difficult at first. It took me as a Recon at Level 16 (30 hours of multi-player match time) to finally get to a 1/1 kill-death ratio. Some of the maps are crowded and are best for close combat. So playing as a Recon with a sniper rifle is not very sensible; others that play as Assault or Specialist are better equipped for close work. Ubisoft needs to make some large maps so you can really spread out and play different roles effectively. The game still has some server issues. I don't get disconnected very often but sometimes there can be long wait times to get into an 8 on 8 match (you can't join on your own but are "assigned" to a match). Anyhow, as I have not seen any posts regarding GRO I though I'd provide a brief overview from my perspective to the rest of the TS community. AJ....................................

    GRFS- Here it is.

Bought this and Little Maggot played thru the campaign on 2 computers in 2 days. II have only played the Multiplayer and am at Level 10 as a Scout. There are 3 classes (Scout, Rifleman, Engineer) and u start out with #$@^ equipment. Need exp points to get new equip. Get may bum cleaned by ppl with better weapons and optics. Maps are tiny. Generally very fast paced and chaotic. I don't really like third person approach. It looks like the "consolidation" toward the BF3/MW3 approach to shooters is here to stay. After several months the servers still suck.

    Ghost Recon Online

I was in this for a limited amount of time but kept getting disconnected so I quit trying. Not sure if it was on my end or the server. Looks interesting though, nice weapons and graphics.

    Liquid cooling systems

I bought my first air cooler for my last build (8 core AMD). I had considered water cooling but thought that it was a bad idea with all that liquid around all those boards. As stated previously the new air coolers are quite good and if you maintain good airflow through your box with supplemental fans temps can be kept at a reasonable level.

    RC2 Stats

OK, wasn't sure how it was done. I generally don't play race to the front kill many/die often style rather I often play in a supporting role and protect flanks, kill snipers etc. and my goal is to play through a map with minimal deaths - the ultimate goal is having a clean sheet (zero deaths) but that is a rarity. I figured there was a divide by zero problem unless you had an "If...then" macro set up to deal with zero player deaths (that is if deaths = zero then divide by 1 otherwise divide by actual deaths). Thanks Blind. AJ

    RC2 Stats

As one who still plays a bit of RC2 I'm a bit confused on how the Stats are calculated. Yesterday (for example) I was in a map with a group of awesome players and ended up with 55 kills and 1 death. I had no friendly fire kills (i.e., nobody ran in front of me and no bounce or WalMart Lag nades). In the Stats for that map it shows I had a Kill-death ratio of 28. Are the Stats being calculated with some "new" math that I'm too old to understand??? Last I checked a ratio was a straightforward calculation of Kills/Deaths. So, what am I missing here ???? AJ
  8. Ghost - you definitely need help too. I did my first build in 04 and by 2010 even with upgrades it couldn't keep up.

I was an early adopter of Firefox but about a year and a half ago I was having all kinds of problems with it and it was crashing my system. Therefore, because I hated IE, I migrated to Chrome.

    I was using Chrome.
  13. Damn, that is dated. Next time you play GRAW I'll look to see if you are running with crutches.

After viewing some messages I have noticed that some TS members have their computer build/components displayed below their online status.

Since BV looked at this issue I have not seen any problems with crashing.
